What do you do in Peru?
When we arrive in Lima, we then board another plane and fly to Iquitos (a city in the jungle), where we go to a house boat. We will travel the first day up to 200 miles on any given river, traveling to our first village. Monday morning we visit our first village, providing medical care, dental care, construction, building gardens, playing games with children, giving clothing etc away, fluoride treatments, brushing teeth, foot washing, evangelism, crafts, sewing, digging wells, playing games, and so much more. We will sail to the next village that night and on Tuesday we will be in our second village.
Is there time to shop?
There is awesome shopping. The jungle stores in Iquitos are well know for their blood wood products. In Lima, the mountain natives have the alpaca products, silver jewelry, and a big selection of the fancy handmade work of the villages.
Do you visit any of the fun sites?
We can visit a zoo of local animals from the jungle, a boat ride to Belen (floating city on water), many Inca ruins, tour of Lima, museums…
Where do we stay while we’re there?
For a group 19 folks, we live on the Chosen Vessel. For a group of 30 folks, we will rent a boat for the locals.
Can my family call me? How can they get in touch with me?
It is very difficult to speak to your family when in the jungle. If there is an emergency state side, we can be contacted in the jungle, but we only want to use this in case of emergencies.
Do I need any vaccinations?
Yes, you need vaccinations. On the application section, there is a page covering the required vaccinations needed. You can also see the list here.
What if I don’t speak Spanish?
You do not need to speak Spanish, but it is fun to learn a few words to try to communicate. We have great interpreters who speak for us.
What should I bring with me?
There is a packing list included in the application. You will also find a list of what to bring here.
Should children come on the trip?
Children are definitely welcome to come, however the youngest age would be around 7yrs. It is very important that your child listens and follows directions. Remember, we are in the jungle and on a riverboat with very fast moving water.
