While eating dinner in the evening, a knock came to the door of the dinning room-”Miss joyce, there is a man on the bottom of the boat bleeding”. We quickly ran to find a young man in a dug out canoe, covered in blood. His father brought him from another village. The young man was working with wood, when a piece flew up hitting his lower jaw, causing him to bite his tongue, severing one of the two large veins that lie under the tongue. He had been bleeding approximately 6 hrs. By this time, he was barely responsive, Blood Pressure by palpation was 70/00. We carried him to the clinic in the lower deck of the Chosen Vessel, and the doctors proceeded to suture with much difficulty the vein closed. I put 2 large bore IV’s in him and ran them wide open. We had no blood to give him, so we prayed the Normal Saline would work. We were to set sail that night to go to the next village, but I knew he would never survive if we did. So we spent the night with a nurse watching over him till morning. By then, he remained fully conscious, yet dizzy but able to walk, so his father took him back to their village. APRIL 2008-Dr. Allen Blankenship was working in the clinic, when a young man with his father spoke out loud saying “Is there anyone here that fixed my tongue last year”. Alan immediately knew what the young man was talking about. The tongue had healed perfectly. He asked Alan if he could know the GOD that Alan knew, because HIS doctors helped him when he was dying. Kent Pruss lead the young man to Jesus-he was so ready to believe, but waited 1 year. PRAISE GOD

I am very good friends with Erin Milligan and the folks at the Christian Motessory School in Ann Arbor. They are wonderful folks. Erin, Louis, Jon Luke, Caleb and several others from the school have gone on several missions trips to PERU, leading their own groups on several occassions. We have realized the need of a storage area for all the goodies we take to the people in the villages. Erin found out this spring, that she has been given a huge storage building, next to the school where she can expanded her growing school into. She has also opened a Share House ministry in part of the building where people can go and purchase items that have been donated to the school . And also a big PRAISE, there is a storage area where all the PERU goodies can collect. When we are getting close to leaving for our trips, we can go to the share house to pack our 50 pound bags with all the items we have collected and take them with us on the trip. AMAZING-truly AMAZING!

I had just completed one week on the river with a group. Kent Pruss and I were staying for 2 weeks, joining the second team lead by Phil Gillespie(a very crazy man-GO STATE). By the way Phil, I have crossed over-no more blue. Anyway, Kent and I were in the city of Iquitos in the evening shopping. We decided we should try to buy a cake mix and make a birthday cake for Susie. Her birthday was that next Tuesday. We are in the grocery store and I am trying to describe, act out, make chicken noises, doing of course what ever I need to do to explain to them what I need. By this time Kent has disappeared. Suddenly, a voice from behind me said-”IS there someone in here trying to speak Spanish”. I raised my hand, turning around to see a Peuvian gentleman, speaking excellent English. He was with his lovely wife. He aked me what in the world was I looking for. I told him my tale and he showed me where to buy a cake mix. Of course, they were all sold out. By this time Kent has resurfaced from the back corner. He asked us what we were doing in the jungle on a Saturday night. I told him about the mission, our jungle ministry and the hospital that is 12 miles from Iquitos, but it is not open because the governor and the government will not allow the mission to open the hospital. He was amazed that our care to his people would be free. He told us that his brother just happened to be the mayor of Iquitos and his has an older brother in government. He said that he would see to it that the misson hospital-Harbor House would be opened. AND I was just going to buy a cake mix.

I want to teach the village women how to sew. I want to give each village a sewing machine for them to use to sew and sell their product to make money for themselves. This is a problem, because the villages do not have electicity. I have given them small hand sewing machines in the past, but they are very cheap and I am sure they are broke by now. I told Carol and George Hicks my desire for the villages. Carol was shopping in JoAnn Fabrics one day buying material when a man heard her talking about Peru. He told her he had something she might like. It is portable treddle sewing machine. We could not believe it. Carol and George have purchased 2 of these machines and this man gave her 2 machines. George is going to design a base for them to sit on and send the instructions to the mission in Peru so they will be waiting for us in Feb when we go on our next trip. Coincidence-I DON”T THINK SO!

I like to take Spanish Bibles with me on these trips. During our clinic day in the villages, we have an evangelism station where the villagers can go and receive prayer. The story of the life is JESUS is told during that time and an opportunity to trust CHRIST for the first time or rededication of their life, is offered. I received a phone call a month ago from a lady at church asking me if I could use Spanish Bibles. She had 300 of them and didn’t know what to do with them. Of course, I was delighted and told her I was needing Spanish Bible to take on my February trip. I now have 300 new testament Spanish bibles. GOD does want HIS word to go forth.

When we teach the lady’s to sew in the villages with their new treddle machines, of course we are going to need material and someone that knows how to sew. Well, wouldn’t you know it. Jody Mollinger-a nurse I work with at St. Joseph’s hospital who is going on the trip, heard me talk the about the machines and the need for material. She that night called her mother in law, and asked her if she had any material. She told her mother in law, Sandy, about the trip and what we wanted to do. Sandy gave her 4 to 5 bags of material and asked if she could go on the trip as she sews professionally and would love to teach these ladies. Isn’t GOD amazing!
